Dr. Jaime Chou, DVM grew up in Minnesota and has always known that she wanted to be a veterinarian. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Animal Science at the University of Minnesota. As an undergraduate student, she did research on Lyme disease in dogs and published a paper on her research in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association. After graduating from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009, Dr. Chou worked at a small animal hospital in Minnesota treating dogs, cats, and pocket pets for 3 years before moving west and settling in San Diego in 2012.

Dr. Chou loves helping people understand their pets’ healthcare and educate them in caring for their pets. She chose general practice because she enjoys all fields of medicine. Her greatest interests include dentistry, surgery, internal medicine, and dermatology. She is experienced in a wide range of surgeries including surgical dental extractions, spays, neuters, gastropexies, cystotomies, intestinal foreign body surgeries, and femoral head and neck ostectomies. Most recently, she has been trained by a specialist to perform knee surgeries for ACL tears called the tibial tuberosity advancement or TTA. She is also credentialed in Vet Stem stem cell therapy and platelet rich plasma (PRP) treatments, which help promote the repair response of injured tissues using stem cells or their derivatives. On the weekends, Dr. Chou performs spays and neuters at a spay and neuter clinic, helping to keep pets healthy and reducing the need to euthanize millions of healthy dogs and cats.

In her free time, Dr. Chou enjoys spending time with her husband, John and her three young children, Samantha, Evelyn, and Nolan. She is also a mother to two pets, Emma (tabby cat) and Kali (yellow Labrador Retriever). Dr. Chou has had Emma since she was orphaned at 4 weeks of age, and bottle fed her as a tiny kitten. Kali was also a rescue case, and was surrendered because she had heartworm disease. Dr. Chou treated and saved Kali and she is now healthy and heartworm free!
